Why Partnered Research? • Science has tended to independently set the agenda for its activities • Agencies or other entities that fund science want better coordination to facilitate discovery to application (translation and impact) • Science will need increased engagement with external partners in order to: • Enhance impact on policy and translation to practice • Maintain and expand funding for research

  4. Partnership Possibilities Interest: Get to a bottom-line solution for a specific health-related issue. Increase awareness, raise funds, fund programs, activate networks. Interest: Produce a commercial-izableproduct which addresses consumer needs Interest Groups (Foundations) optimize the quality, safety, equity, and affordability of health care services Business Science Interest: Promoting scientific discovery , informing practice and policy, and ensuring funding for ongoing research Interest: • Creating policy that effectively addresses important health issues Government

  5. Partnership Process Scoping Research Planning Implementation Solution Issue or Problem Measurement / Response Business or gov’t implement programs. Interest groups mobilize network. Science reports findings. Groups develop implementation plan (or call for more research). Science conducts research to identify causes of and solutions for the issue. Groups identify a common issue or problem. Sponsors fund science to research issue. Increased Impact of Science on Practice and Policy
