What is Coaching? • It’s a methodology for developing self and others so that people are more effective and fulfilled. • It involves the development of increasing competence in the coachee • competence = understanding + the ability to take action • It’s about self correcting and self generation of new behaviours • Conversations, self observations and practices are the primary processess and tools

Conversation for Relationship • Building mutual trust and respect • Understanding the person in their context • Clarifying what they want to do • Understanding what they have tried already • Re-aligning their expectations • Exploring barriers and obstacles • Conversation for Possibility • Working with them to generate new • perspectives or ways or seeing the situation • Pushing them to think outside of the box • Generating multiple possibilities • Conversation for Action • Turning possibilities into action • Securing commitment to next steps • Enrolling them in way forward • Clarifying what could go wrong Conversation for relationship (SOI) 50-60% Conversation for possibility 20-30% Conversation for action 10% • The three conversations in coaching
