  3. CavitiesWhat they are and how to prevent them Introduction Tooth decay is the second most common childhood disease. Tooth decay is caused by acids that are created from the combination of bacteria and sugar foods in the mouth. These acids eat away at the teeth and cause holes in the teeth that are called cavities. Cavities must be taken care of or they can cause infections and make you loose your teeth. Tooth decay can be prevented by daily brushing with a fluoride toothpaste, flossing, eating healthy and regular dental check-ups. Quick Link

  4. Task • The purpose of this webquest is for you to understand how cavities form and what you can do to help prevent them. • You can perform this webquest on your own or with a partner. • During this webquest you will read a book about oral health, take a quiz to test your dental knowledge, perform experiments to help you understand how cavities form, learn about good and bad foods and watch videos on good brushing and flossing techniques. • You will also keep a 7 day journal of your own brushing and flossing habits and what foods you eat so that you can see just how good you are taking care of your own teeth. 5. Process Quick Link By using the resources found on the next slide you will perform the following activities: Create a poster of good foods and bad foods or a brochure on proper oral care techniques. Make up a ten question quiz about cavities and oral health. Explain to the class the results of the experiment you choose to perform. You will write a short essay explaining what you can change to make your own mouth healthier
