  1. Common Challenges Faced During Website Database Design The choice of a database design has always been a simple decision, until big data came along and disrupted the way information gets relayed, collected, and processed. In the past, web and database managers always knew which database to use in order to solve one challenge after another. Relational databases used to be the one go-to answer for most any database-related question. However, with the rapid pace, size, and scale of data processing these days, website database design faces far greater challenges. Now that there are as many as 3 billion smartphone users and 20 billion more smart devices that are being used to collect, share, and analyze data, it is not surprising how database strategies of yesteryears simply don’tand won’t work in today’s ever more data driven world. One of the most common issues or challenges database developers and designers face today is data security. In the last couple of years, thousands of systems got hacked into after being left completely open and exposed to the public via the internet. Nowadays, databases ought to come with easy-to-set-up security that will instantly notify users in case something is amiss, hence protecting data at rest as well as data in transit from any type of breach. Delayed detection of a security breach is simply not an option in this day and age of critical data control. Data security must, therefore, be reinforced using the built-in database security along with your organization’s legacy security system for complete protection against security threats. Performance challenges are also real in today’s data processing environment. With the ever- increasing amount of data that you have to process, users demand faster processing of the same, all without having to jump through proverbial hoops just to get what they need. Databases nowadays are expected to ensure superior performance, which is characterized by its ability to recognize the needs of an operational environment, as well as to automatically adjust to such requirements. Resource utilization is another common challenge during website database design phases, especially as web developers struggle to choose the best hardware and software combinations so that website databases will behave accordingly. https://www.is-t.net/ IS&T Consulting Group, LLC | Houston TX USA– 77055 | info@is-t.net
