  7. Watercolours • Location: Beach Club Colony site • 40 units, 133 bedrooms • 6 stories high with a basement parking garage • A pool with pool bar, two gazebos, and a conference room are also proposed. Grand Cayman Beach Suites Buckingham Square Beach Club Colony

Ritz Carlton- DeckHouses • New project aimed at those who seek larger spreads with a feel of private island living. • Whole ownership in 19 five-bedroom, five-bath single-family homes in a gated community, ranging from $3.5 – $8.7 million • 6,300 square feet spread across three levels with a private infinity pool, wrap-around deck and an attached boathouse. • Also a one-bedroom, one-bath guest cottage is also on each property. • “Endless Service” offered from Ritz - collection of personalized services, from interior design and boat rentals to personal butlers.

Ritz Carlton- DeckHouses • Second phase of the development - Secret Harbour (adjacent to DeckHouses) • Being designed but plans are for 120 condos comprised of 1,2 and 3 bedrooms • Starting at pre-construction prices of US$650,000 • Other future phases include: • Yacht marina with more condos, restaurants, bars, and shops

Voluntourism Definition: A seamlessly integrated combination of voluntary service to a destination and the best, traditional elements of travel — arts, culture, geography, and history — in that destination. • Focus: Sustainability • Opportunity to partner with tourism stakeholders through e-marketing and promotion. • CIDoT will provide advice and marketing to those industry partners interested in this service • Matchmaking opportunity to introduce Voluntourism to other organizations.

  19. Where we are: • Industry partners have been approached and are onboard. Many of them already having multiple Voluntourism opportunities. • Include: • National Trust Projects/Programmes eg. Blue Iguana and Mission House • National Events –e.g. Pirates Week Office – assisting with functions/painting, building sets • Chamber of Commerce – Island wide clean up • Public Libraries – reading to children, summer events   • Creative complete • Immigration Implications clarified • Currently encouraging Hotels to come onboard through CITA

RITZ CARLTON -BLUE IGUANA RECOVERY PROGRAM • Fridays in August • Adult USD$70, Child USD$55 • Guests briefed by an Ambassadors of the Environment on the plight of the 25-pound “blue dragons” and collect fresh food necessary for preparing them for release into the wild. • At the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park, you will feed iguanas from babies to breeding pairs and serve as a spotter in the park to map the location of roaming blues using binoculars and GPS tracking.

CEPTS • Promoting sustainable tourism through best practices; public-private sector partnership for improved environmental performance in the CI tourism sector. • Phase I • conducting environmental audits • establishing environmental management systems • Guiding piloted properties through Green Globe certification and exploring possibilities of destination certification for Little Cayman • 7 pilot properties • Southern Cross Club (LYC) • Little Cayman Beach Resort (LYC) • Pirates Point Resort (LYC) • Cobalt Coast (GCM) • Compass Point (GCM) • Sunshine Suites (GCM) • Botanic Park (GCM)

CEPTS • Phase 2 • review of the existing development control and site design regulations with a view to incorporating environmental policies • pilot EMS project for tourist attractions • developing a work plan for destination certification for Little Cayman. Later Phases will include establishing EMS in other tourism-related sectors/businesses, such as restaurants, tour operators and watersports operators.

National Customer Service Standard, Inspection and Training Program • Initiated by the MoT & DoT in an effort to help raise the level and consistency of customer service delivery • The program consists of developing, implementing and monitoring national customer service (behavioural and quality) standards and training within each of our tourism sectors for our industry partners

Milestones • “Top 10 Promises” (behavioural standards) established • Promises (multi-sector behavioural standards) benchmark measurement completed • Accommodation sector quality standards established, measurement and benchmark results completed & presented to sector • Accommodation sector Standards of Performance Manuals developed • Quality standards checklist for Attraction sector agreed by sector representatives • Cayman Airways: • Cayman Airways quality standards measurement and benchmark results completed / results presented to CAL • Cayman Airways Standards of Performance Manuals developed • Cayman Airways Practices (on the job coaching component) completed • PRIDE Collateral developed including: • PRIDE informational and promotional materials • PRIDE Video produced and being utilized in workshops • The “Know Your Cayman Islands Book” was developed as a tool to educate our hospitality ambassadors of the rich history, heritage & culture of the Cayman Islands

MOT Tourism Scholarship Programme • Represents the Government’s effort to facilitate more Caymanian involvement in the tourism industry, particularly at the managerial level. • Designed for students who demonstrate strong evidence of their desire and intent to pursue Bachelors or Masters Degrees for tourism or tourism related disciplines. • Since its inception twelve years ago, sixty-nine students have benefited from the Program. • Approximately 60% have completed their studies, and have secured employment within the private and public sectors. • 2008 MOT Scholars will be studying culinary management, graphic design, marketing management, entertainment business, event management, flight training, and hospitality and tourism management.

MOT Apprenticeship Training Program Developed as a mechanism to generate a greater supply of highly qualified Caymanian workforce who will raise the level of professional competency within the tourism workforce, bring distinct cultural flavour to the local tourism product and services, and give much needed stability to the industry

MOT Apprenticeship Training Program • Designed to provide apprentices with the technical skills and work experience necessary to succeed in today’s fast-paced tourism and hospitality industry. • Upon successful completion Apprentices will receive: • The regionally recognised CaribCert certification within their core areas of concentration • Certificate of recognition from the Minister of Tourism • Certificate in Hospitality Studies

The North Sound Club – WB • Caymans only 18-hole Championship Golf Course • Formerly - The Links Golf Club; purchased by Ritz Carlton • Located on SafeHaven Drive just east of the bypass behind the Ritz-Carlton • Rates are seasonal • North Sound Club Resident and non-resident club memberships available • Club offers a pro shop & open air bar with large screen TVs and a relaxed atmosphere for pre or post-play lounging. • 345 947- GOLF (4653) or golfpro@northsoundclub.com

Cayman Islands National Museum - GT • Soft opening in November when the building will open for tours • Formal opening slated for early 2009. • Museum Gift Shop closed as of June, operate from the site of the historic old post office • Gift shop will re–open in its newly refurbished quarters at the Museum in November 2008

Cayman Islands National Museum - GT • Gift shop will introduce new line of souvenir merchandise when the re–opened. • Will offer everything from Caymanite to crystal, paintings, prints, puzzles and more. • Will remain the sole authorised distributor for CI flags and Coat of Arms plaques, as well as the flag of the United Kingdom.  • As part of its new look, Gift Shop will be more reminiscent of an old time general store • Shop hours are Mondays through Fridays, 9 to 5 pm.

  38. Miss Lassie’s House • Govt has acquired a key symbol of Caymanian culture – the home of the late Gladwyn ’Miss Lassie’ Bush. • Classic old-time wattle-and-daub Caymanian cottage • Miss Lassie, a prominent Caymanian visionary intuitive artist, lived there her entire life, painting on the walls, windows and doors of the building, as well as on canvas. • Cottage will be renovated and used as a visitors’ centre

  39. Cayman Traditional Arts (CTA) - WB • CTA’s new home – Nurse Leila’s House; Leased from the National Trust • Nurse Leila was one of the first qualified nurses in CI. Successfully delivered over 1000 babies. • The house is over 100 years old, was moved to current location in 1917 after having been damaged by a hurricane.

National Trust Update Recent purchases: • Additional 173 acres in the Mastic Reserve • Uncle Sammy’s Pond (3.5 acre property in WB); will be developed to include parking, boardwalks, signage and birdwatching facilities • Additional 0.41 of an acre at the Governor Gore Bird Sanctuary. The facilities will be expanded. • Entered a purchase agreement for 3 acres of land at the southern trailhead of Mastic Trail. Purchase will allow for permanent visitor facilities at the trail including parking, signage and eventually bathroom facilities.

National Trust Update • Completed exterior repairs and painting to Historic Eldemire House in Cayman Brac • Nurse Leila’s House, Fort George, Watler Cemetery and Jackson Wall historic sites - Specialist consultant employed to advise appropriate repairs and improvements. • Nurse Leila’s House - Picket fencing erected and made site improvements. • Savannah Schoolhouse - repairs carried out with a view to offering more frequent visitation.

  43. National Trust Update • Designed, produced and placed directional signage for Trust properties on GCM with the assistance of the DOT. Blue Iguana Captive Breeding Facility Improvements: • Introduction of solar power • New signage • Daily tours • Tickets may now be purchased upon entry to the park; replacing the pre-booking system previously employed. • Tours for the Summer: Mon-Sat at 11am.

  44. National Trust Update • Major improvements to GT Visitor Centre; expanded opening hours to include Saturday. Hours are 9-5:30 Mon-Fri & 9am-1pm Saturday. • Little Cayman Visitor Centre - Completed wheelchair ramp and improvements to landscaping • New brochures produced for Mastic Trail & Mission House (with the assistance of the DOT) - distributed in major hotels and condos.

  45. National Trust Future Plans • Enhancements to the Mission House site to accommodate events such as weddings and conference dinners • Introduction of a full range of Blue Iguana merchandise • Development of a permanent Mastic Trailhead • Improvements to the visitor experience at Fort George • Repairs and improvements to the Little Cayman Visitor Centre.
