  2. Text Features • Use the text feature of bold print to help you find the important words. • Use the illustrations to help you understand the word.

  3. Plates • Turn to page 5 in the text. Find the word plates. • The crust is broken into huge pieces called plates.

  4. Faults • Turn to page 6. Find the word faults. • The crust has many cracks in it. The cracks, or breaks, are called faults.

  5. Magma • Turn to page 14. Find the word magma. • Ash, solid rock, and magma, or liquid rock, erupt through the cone.

  6. Ring of Fire • Go to page 14. Find the words Ring of Fire. • More than half of the world’s volcanoes are located in what is known as the Ring of Fire.

  7. Illustrations • Let’s find some pictures in the book to help us understand our words. Write down how many you found for each word! • Plates ______ • Faults ______ • Magma ______ • Ring of Fire ________
