  2. Past Year Activities • Review peering services, and assess ongoing Internet Transit services for BCNET members. • Issue an RFP for Internet Transit service.

  3. Internet Transit RFP • Successfully completed with 3 suppliers:Bell, Shaw, Tata • Overall 17% decrease in costs • Increased capacity at each TX to a total of nearly 4G Accesses upgraded to 10GigE in Vancouver and 1GigE in other Exchanges

  4. Peering Updates • Akamai servers at VANTX deliver content from a vast array of content providers including Apple, BBC, CBC, CBS, NBA, NFL. • Limelight Networks added as peering service – NetFlix, Fox, MTV, DreamWorks • Peering with Google in Seattle – Google content including Youtube is 1 hop away1 GigE link at near capacity • Peering at the SIX in Seattle – 39 IPv4 peers, including Yahoo and Microsoft. 16 IPv6 peers1 GigE link at near capacity

  5. New Peering Services • CANARIE Peering ServiceWorking to develop service delivery at BCNET over next few months • Google Caching ServiceSimilar to Akamai with local caching serversDeveloping with CANARIE

  6. Peering Service Effects • Service outage at SIX April 13 for 5 hoursSupplier had a hardware problem • Traffic fails over to Internet Transit • Time of day and yearLower utilization than usualMinimal congestion on Internet Transit links • Would have been problematic during peak times
