Fitness Theory Exam • 60 multiple choice questions • 1 hour to complete • $70 fee (includes first year of registration) • To review the study guide click here • Exam writing options: • Sitting offered after Fitness Theory Course • At the BCRPA office (book with reception clerk: bcrpa@bcrpa.bc.ca) • Proctored exam (click here for more details)

  4. Practical Modules • 5 options: • Group Fitness Module: 16hrs. minimum • Weight Training Module: 16hrs. minimum • Yoga Fitness Module: 35hrs. minimum • Aquatic Fitness Module: 16hrs. Minimum • Pilates Fitness Module: 40hrs. Minimum • To review current module listings click here

  5. Practicum and Instructor Competency Evaluation (ICE) • Practicums and ICE packages vary depending on module • To review a listing of approved practicum sites click here although your practicum may take place at any site • To review ICE packages click here

  6. BCRPA Registered Fitness Leader (GF, WT, YF, AF, PF) • You must obtain your own CPR and first aid certifications to complete the registration process • Insurance information • Mentorship program • Job postings • Scope of Practice • Renewal information • In-class workshops • Distance education workshops • BCRPA Fitness, Strength and Conditioning Conference • Renewal credit options

  7. BCRPA Registered Fitness Leader (GF, WT, YF, AF, PF) • Specialty designations • 3rd Age • Osteofit • Advanced designations • Advanced Fitness Leader • Supervisor of Fitness Leaders • Trainer of Fitness Leaders • Code of ethics

  8. 20hrs. Practical Weight Training Experience • Prior to taking the Personal Training Module an applicant must have completed 20 hrs. of working as a weight training leader (paid or volunteer) • A supervisor/manager needs to verify these 20 hrs. • Verification letter (submitted to course conductor, not to BCRPA)

  10.   14. Combo Courses • Many instructors are now teaching combo courses • These are a combination of two or more courses • i.e. Fitness Theory and Weight Training • The certification process is basically the same

  15. Transfer and Course By-pass If you have prior practical experience or post secondary education you can apply to by-pass certain steps in the certification process: • Course By-pass – for those who have post-secondary education • Grand Parent – applies to GF, WT, YF, PF and AF and is for those with prior practical experience working as a fitness leader • Fast Track – applies to Personal Training and is for those with prior practical experience working as a personal trainer • Transfer – applies to those who are already certified with another fitness governing body and want to transfer into the BCRPA
