OVERALL AIM OF IIIC • Aim: to improve the effectiveness of regional development policies and instruments • Tool: large-scale information exchange and sharing of experience (networks) in a structured way • Ways • regions without joint borders can work together in common projects and develop networks of co-operation • access to experience of other actors involved in regional development policy • synergies between "best practice" projects and the Structural Fund’s mainstream programmes

  3. COOPERATION AREA OF IIIC • entire EU territory including insular and outermost regions • promotion of the participation of third countries as widely as possible, especially the EU candidate countries (Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey), Norway, Switzerland and the MEDA countries

  4. TOPICS FOR COOPERATION IN IIIC • Activities can cover a wide rage of themes closely related to regional development policy. These are divided into five fields of experience: • Structural Funds Objective 1 and 2 • INTERREG programmes • Urban development • Innovative Actions • Other appropriate subjects • INTERREG programmes • promote exchange of experience and networking among areas involved in current or previous INTERREG programmes • focus on the implementation of INTERREG programmes

INTERREG IIIB IN HUNGARY • Hungarian participation in the CADSES Programme (Central, Adriatic, Danubian and South-East Europe) • 1998: full membership for Hungary • Project types: planning, research, exchange of experience or other professional cooperation • Typical beneficiaries: public equivalent bodies

INTERREG IIIA PROGRAMMES IN HUNGARY • „EU internal” bilateral programme • Austria – Hungary INTERREG IIIA Programme • New „EU internal – external” trilateral Neighbourhood Programmes • Hungary – Slovakia – Ukraine Neighbourhood Programme (INTERREG – TACIS) • Slovenia – Hungary – Croatia Neighbourhood Programme (INTERREG – CARDS) • New „EU-external” trilateral cross-border programme • Hungary-Romania and Hungary –Serbia and Montenegro Cross- Border Programme (INTERREG-PHARE-CARDS)

HUNGARIAN PARTICIPATION IN INTERREG IIIC • The Hungarian INTERREG IIIC Governmental Co-financing Fund: 4.1 million EUR from the date of accession • Hungarian organisations taking part in interregional projects • 2003: Phare funds • 2nd, 3rd and 4th INTERREG IIIC Calls for proposals: ERDF funds • 2nd round: 2 358 444 EUR • 3rd round: 2 635 423 EUR • 4th round: 2 708 858 EUR

  9. HUNGARIAN PARTICIPATION IN INTERREG IIIC / 2 • 69 projects with Hungarian participation • 3 projects with Hungarian lead partner • 96 Hungarian partners in the 69 projects • altogether 7.7 million ERDF funds
