  2. Course Information • ENEE 244 – Digital Logic Design – CRN 24192 • Location: Science Center (SC) 124 • Tuesday 6:15-8:55 pm [15 min break ~ 7:30 pm] • Dr. Kam F. Yee – Adjunct Professor (No office on campus) • Dept. of Engineering, Physical and Computer Science • Email: kam.yee@montgomerycollege.edu • Office Location: SC 446 • Office Hours: Tue 5:05-6:05 PM

  3. Required Textbook • Introduction to Logic and Computer Design, 1st Ed. By Alan Marcovitz, McGraw Hill, 2008

  4. Course Descripton • Introduction to concepts, principles and design techniques governing the behavior of digital circuits. • Topics include: • Binary number system • Switching algebra • Arithmetic and logical operations • Karnaugh map • Combinational and sequential logic systems • Registers and Counters • State tables and state diagrams

  6. Course Structure • Course consists of: • Weekly lectures • Weekly homeworks • Weekly quizzes • Three exams

  7. Course Grading • The final numeric grade will be determined as follows: • Homeworks 10% • Quizzes 10% • Design Project 15% • Exam 1 20% • Exam 2 20% • Exam 3 25% 100% [1] Lowest quiz grade will be dropped [2] Every exam counts! No exam scores will be dropped

  8. Course Grading (Continued) • The final letter grade will be awarded as follows: 90.0% and above A 80.0% to 89.9% B 70.0% to 79.9% C 60.0% to 69.9% D 59.9% and below F • No grade curving or scaling will be applied.

  9. Homeworks • Practice problems posted weekly (in course website) • May be spot checked or collected for grading • Homeworks will not be graded in meticulous detail • If grading, no late homeworks will be accepted • Homework problems may be discussed in class • Homework solution hardcopies will not be distributed • A quiz will be given each week (at the beginning of class). Homework may be used as reference material.

  10. Exams • Closed book, closed notes • A 8.5” x 11” cheat sheet (front only) allowed • Exam Reference Information Sheet will be allowed as reference material • No make-up exams, except in extraordinary circumstances (must have documented evidence) • Arrangements must be made to schedule a make-up test, at least 3 business days prior to the day of the exam. (It is possible that the make-up date will be on a Saturday)

  11. Extra Credit • Although grading is based on a 100-point scale, it may be possible to receive grades greater than 100 • A student can potentially end up with a final grade greater than 100 points

  12. Class Attendance • Each student is expected to attend every class • If a class is missed, it is the student’s responsibility to obtain the information covered in that class • Excessive unexcused absences and tardiness may result in lower course grade or being dropped from the class. • Five or more absences will result in automatic “F” • If professor is late by 20 mins  class is cancelled

  13. Disability Support Service • Any student who may need special accommodations due to a disability must inform me as soon as possible. A letter from Disability Support Service (DSS) authorizing your accommodations is required. • Any student who may need assistance in the event of an emergency evacuation must identify himself/herself to the Disability Support Services Office. E-mail Policy • MC e-mail (name@montgomerycollege.edu) is the official means of communication for the College • The best way to reach me throughout the week is via e-mail • Check your MC e-mail frequently; it will be used for course-related communications • Homeworks may be turned in by e-mail (in PDF format only), and the same late homework policy applies • If you contact me via e-mail, you must use your MC e-mail account (rather than a yahoo or hotmail account) so that I can recognize you as a student.

  15. Inclement Weather Policy • Montgomery College may prompt emergency closing of the campus. Check the College’s website for official closings. • Course schedule will be adjusted if class is canceled. • There will be reading and self-learning assignments. You will be responsible for learning the material.

  16. Detailed Course Outline • See page 3 of Course Syllabus • Duration: 16 weeks • Note dates of the 3 exams • Important Deadlines: • Sep 01: Drop class and receive full refund. • Sep 15: Drop class without grade. Deadline to change from credit to audit, or from audit to credit. • Nov 10: Drop class with a grade of “W”. Warning: Dropping class after this date results in automatic “F” grade.

Tips for Succeeding in this Course • Read textbook, Read textbook, Read textoobk • Come to class and arrive on time “80% of the success is showing up.” • Don’t wait until Tue afternoon to start homework; Understand the homework problems • See “Solved Problems” and “Test Problems” at the end of chapters • Find a study partner, or form a study group • See me during office hours • Don’t fall behind; Seek help as soon as possible
