  5. Grade 10 • Begin career exploration • Investigate training needed for various careers • Investigate schools that offer the training you want • Summer after Grade 10 – visit colleges & schools nearby • Take challenging coursework • Take the PSAT

  6. Grade 10 – Personal Goals • Get involved outside the classroom • Look for leadership opportunities • Give to others through community service • Build a resume (using word template)

  7. Grade 11 • Continue career exploration • Continue investigating training needed • Begin to narrow search • Continue to maintain challenging curriculum • Try advanced placement or dual enrollment courses

Grade 11 – Personal Goals • Narrow college search • Make plans to visit colleges over spring break and summer • Contact admissions offices to arrange tours • Prepare for SAT & ACT tests and take tests in the spring • Start preparing resume and relevant information • PSAT for National Merit consideration

  9. Grade 12 • Work to achieve your best GPA • Check deadlines for applications • Keep all required documents organized for the application process • Take the SAT/ACT tests • Complete senior credit check • Athletes register with NCAA Clearinghouse website

  11. Community Service • Complete your Community Service packet as early as possible • Community service hours may be helpful as an essay topic in college applications • Meaningful experiences add significantly to your resume • Experience can be a foot in the door for a job.

  12. Honors Programs in College • Review requirements • Ask questions of students who are or have been in an honors program • Inquire within your proposed major department as to the benefits of an honors program
