  1. Day 3 • Write a variable expression for each situation. • The value in cents of q quarters. • Twice the length l. • The number of miles traveled at 34 mi/h in h hours. • The weight of 5 crates if each crate weighs x kilograms. • The cost of n items at $3.99 per item.

  2. Consecutive Integers I can set up and solve a consecutive integer word problem. I can set up and solve a numberword problem. Don’t forget to write this “I Can” in your target sheet.

  3. Consecutive Integers If x =8, find the next 3 consecutive integers. 9,10,11

  4. Consecutive Integer Problems Define the Variable: Second =

  5. Ex. 1 The sum of three consecutive integers is 147. Find the integers. Define the Variable: Equation: Solve: Answer the question: So the integers are 48, 49 and 50.

  6. Consecutive Even or Odd Integer Problems In both sequences, the common difference is 2. So, for consecutive even or odd problems the numbers are 2 apart. Define the Variable: X, X+2, X+4…. Etc 

  7. Ex. 2 The sum of 3 consecutive odd integers is 33. Find the integers. Define the Variable: Equation: First= Second= Third= Solve: Answer the question: The integers are 9,11 and 13.

  8. Number Word Problems 1.) There are 378 juniors and seniors sitting in the auditorium. There are two-fifths as many juniors as there are seniors. How many seniors are there in the auditorium? Define variable: Equation: Solve: Answer the question: x = number of seniors

  9. 2.) Angela has scores of 84%, 72%, 95%, and 68% on her first four tests. What does Angela need to get on her fifth test if she wants to maintain at least an 80% average? Define variable: Equation: Solve: Answer the question: x = fifth test

  10. 3.) Twice the sum of 7 and a number is 76. Find the number. 4.) Jill received an allowance of $40.00. She bought a slurpie for $3.89, earned $13 for babysitting, and spent $27.38 at the mall. How much did she have left? Define variable: Equation: Solve: Answer the question: n = number
