  1. 7/28/03 Extended Pid in PHENIX (assembly and integration) CDR review 07/28/2003, presented by E.Kistenev

  2. Retaining PHENIX edge at High PT • (1) coverage 4 m2; • (2) cell size 11x22 cm2; • (3) geometry 10 x 16 cells. TOF Aerogel Needs ToF backing to deliver on promises

  3. Construction readiness

  4. Aerogel Counters • build laminate container; • load aerogel into container; • assemble lid (pc board + lid itself); • install PMT’s, LED, gas connectors and solder all internal leads; • test assembled lid in the black box. • install side bars onto the counter box; • load container container; • install lid; • test assembled counter for light leaks. Repair leaks …..

  5. Building Arrays • A-frame • array skeleton;

  6. Live support • Cabling: • trays; • preamp boxes; • HV&signal cables; • Gas connections: • manifold; • distribution lines; • System test: • purge; • raise HV; • trigger LED’s; • test for the signals on preamp input/output using scope, check for the light leaks;

  7. Logistics Job coordinator/chief tech in the Assembly Area: Mike Lenz

  8. Integration in PHENIX Racks: Symmetrical configuration North&South; Narrow racks are sufficient to run Aerogel component; LV crate HV crate Aerogel (RICH) FEM & Interconnects LED drivers Wide rack are for the ToF component & Trigger Gas: N2 is the boil-off from the LN2 tank. Heating is due to the long transfer lines (is winter is of concern, do we need to control gas temperature?). Flowmeter (limit ~ few x 100 lph) in the gas house, same for the filter.

  9. K- p+ u e+ D+ _ K+ D0 po p- g g Goals • September 19th • First Aerogel Array ready for Installation. • October 1st • North Aerogel Array installed; • North Aerogel Rack fully tested and installed (request from JH – FEM to 1008 now); • October 10th • North Aerogel Detector is in Big Partition.
