  2. I. What is Geography? • Study of the land and the people that live in it • Focuses on where things are and why they are there.

  3. II. 5 Themes of Geography • 1. Location – 2 types • 1. Relative location: position of a place relative to another place • Ex. TMS is located near the city of Roanoke • 2. Absolute location: • Ex. TMS is located at 3937 Haslet-Roanoke Road

  4. 2. Place • Physical environment: external surroundings • We change our place every day!

  5. 3. Human-Environment Relationships • The way humans change their environment • Good and Bad • Pollution (bad) • Arbor Day (good)

  6. ???????????? • Get with your group and give two examples of absolute location and two examples of relative location and share them with the class • Get back with your group and give an example of Human-Environment interaction.

  7. 4. Movement • Migrate – to move from one place to another • Communication – we stay in contact with other nations/people

  8. 5. Region • Areas that have certain features in common • Helps to organize information about surroundings

  9. Assignment • Take out a sheet of paper and to the best of your ability draw the outline of Texas. 5 • Draw 5 symbols inside your Texas that you feel represent Texas. • Color your drawings to the best of your ability.
