  6. Inter-Society Forum 2018 (highlights) • Sorensen represented ISSS during the March 21, 2018 Inter-Society Forum (ISF) • Noted ISSS interests • Focus is on systems safety integration; Defining needs of quality systems safety engineers – promoting education/training; ensuring appropriate coursework is included in university engineering curricula (consider interface with ABET) • Looking at professional certification (consider Interface with BCSP) • Interested in the National Safety Council (NSC) Road to Zero program (consider interface with NSC) International System Safety Society

  7. ISF Background • Originally named the Intersociety Forum on Occupational Health and Safety, the group was founded in 1974 whose purpose was to exchange meaningful information and collaborate on advocacy among its member groups, thereby advancing a mission of reducing occupational injury, illness and death. Since then, its scope has been broadened to represent more than a dozen organizations representing thousands of individual practitioners responsible for administering professional occupational and environmental health and safety services in this country and around the world. The member organizations play a vital role in leading advocacy efforts involving diverse stakeholders in government, industry and labor, as well as with our “sister” organizations around the world. The organizations that compose the Forum are listed in Exhibit A. International System Safety Society

  9. ISSS Participation in the ISF • The ISF has by far a predominant workplace safety focus • Interesting to note some of the initiatives that could impact the ISSS, such as vehicle automation • There are probably other valuable opportunities for paid ISSS participation/travel/etc. • ISF may be a candidate for ISSS investment, but others warrant consideration as well • ISSS can sufficiently support/participate in the ISF virtually International System Safety Society

  10. Identifying teaming effort/agreements with other organizations INCOSE, BCSP, ASSE Safety and Reliability Society (SaRS) Per their website: “THE professional institution for safety reliability and engineering risk management practitioners – in ALL industries” National Safety Council (NSC) “Road to Zero” Vision to end roadway fatalities by 2050 741 Coalition Members currently include ASSE/ASSP, NTSB Goals - Ongoing Priorities International System Safety Society

  11. Continuing to identify volunteer opportunities for ISSS member participation SAE International e.g., G-48 (ANSI/GEIA-STD-0010), S-18 (ARP4754A, ARP4761) RTCA (formerly the Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics, now referred to simply as “RTCA”) DO-178C Software Considerations in Airborne Systems and Equipment Certification DO-254 Design Assurance Guidance for Airborne Electronic Hardware DO-160 Environmental Conditions and Test Procedures for Airborne Electronic/Electrical Equipment and Instruments Goals - Ongoing Priorities (cont.)
