Campus Project: Clean Up Your Butts • PROBLEM: 77.4% of students notice smokers littering their cigarette butts on the ground. • SOLUTION: Raise awareness of the dangers of littering. • PROBLEM: Smokers have no reason to dispose of their cigarettes. • SOLUTION: Recent discoveries show that acetate in cigarette filters strengthen steel. • PROBLEM: Students are unaware of the location of cigarette receptacles • SOLUTION: design receptacles around campus to promote UMD’s green accomplishments. • PROBLEM: Cigarette butts are non-biodegradable. • SOLUTION: Provide a recycling program for smokers on campus.

CLEAN UP YOUR BUTTS CAMPAIGN • OBJECTIVES: • Design posters promoting the use of receptacles. • Design receptacles around campus • Site Analysis for receptacles’ location. • Create a generational change for years to come. • Train students to speak at freshmen and transfer orientations. • Create advertisements to place in the Diamondback.
