  4. Beta Emission • Beta emission is when a beta particle is emitted and the weak nuclear force is transformed from a neutron to a proton while it emits an electron. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Beta-minus_Decay.svg

  5. Positron Emission • Positron Emission is a form of beta decay (known as beta plus) which is when a proton goes into a neutron and spits out a positive charge. http://physics.unco.edu/sung/sci103/nuclear/positron_decay.gif

Conclusions • Alpha emission- atomic mass decreases by 4, atomic number decreases by 2 • Beta Emission-energy converts a proton into a neutron • Positron Capture-proton is converted into a neutron • Electron Capture-atomic number decreases by one, atomic mass stays constant • Gamma Emission-nucleus goes from high energy to low energy
