Transport and the Games £6.5bn investment in transport infrastructure delivered a major early legacy for London London’s public transport system carried more people than ever during the Olympics 62 million journeys on the tube 83 million passengers on the buses 15% increase in cycling in central London The roads carried both regular traffic and Games Family vehicles reliably Success = Commitment, Collaboration and Investment

Road Safety Challenges In the Next Five Years Understanding changing casualties: KSIs are down overall but there has been a recent increase in cyclists and pedestrian KSIs Slight injuries have increased for cyclists, pedestrians and Powered Two Wheelers Long Term Predicted growth in walking and cycling Limited capacity on the Road Network Growing Population – 1 million more people by 2025 Funding – both centrally and at a local level

London’s Draft Road Safety Action Plan Lobby Government to allow new engineering solutions Commit to and improve London’s safety camera network Data-led marketing campaigns Learn from others’ good practice Research to improve policy Campaign for innovation and improvements in vehicle design Actively promote best practice Better collaboration with external organisations Continue making good data available to all Invest in London’s roads to make them safer
