  1. Data Replication from Oracle Database to Snowflake

  2. Why would organizations think of data replication from Oracle database to Snowflake, especially when Oracle has been the foundation of database management for decades? Oracle was launched commercially in 1991. Since then, it has been an integral part of the data landscape in any business environment. Oracle runs on various hardware and software operating systems and enables speedy and efficient data storage and retrieval facilities. It was the first database to support GNU/LINUX and is ACID-compliant, an assurance of data integrity and reliability. Snowflake, on the other hand, is a comparatively new cloud-based data warehouse solution provided as a software-as-a-service.

  3. Snowflake offers unlimited computing and storage facilities. Organizations do not have to invest in setting up hardware and software infrastructure for new projects. Users can scale up or down in either computing or storage and pay only for the resources used. Moreover, Snowflake is a high-performing data warehousing solution and multiple users can simultaneously execute intricate queries without a drop in performance. All tuning and maintenance aspects are taken care of directly by Snowflake. A new SQL database engine has been introduced that is more advanced and user-friendly in comparison to traditional databases like Oracle. The Snowflake architecture supports both structured and unstructured data, a facet that is not available in the Oracle database. This makes replicating datafrom Oracle to Snowflake such an attractive proposition.

  4. Another critical factor that is important for organizations is the heightened data security and safety provided by the Snowflake architecture. Through federated and multi-factor authentication, it automatically encrypts all data end-to-end, ensuring zero loss or breach of data. It also follows the security norms as mandated by HIPAA regarding all activities within its database. The replicating dataprocess from Oracle to snowflake is facilitated by certain in-built features of Snowflake. The Standard version ensures that data between regions and clouds are shared seamlessly. Its smooth data portability feature helps to replicate databases from others like Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle. This is the new version of Snowflake. In the older ESD (Enterprise for Sensitive Data) model, there is the Database Failover and Fallback feature which comes in very handy for businesses whenever there is an outage as data recovery is assured. When an outage occurs, this feature is triggered automatically and secondary databases in the region take over the activity of the primary databases without a break. When the outage is resolved, the feature works in the reverse direction. The primary databases are refreshed with the changed data and start functioning again as normal. Snowflake is therefore a protection against any disaster and server and database crashes and organizations can carry out their routine work without a break in all circumstances. Apart from the many other factors, this feature alone is enough to make organizations want to opt for replicating datafrom Oracle database to Snowflake.
