  2. DesertsGeography & Climate • Location: Cold deserts are near the Arctic part of the world. • Hot and dry deserts are near the Tropic of Cancer or the Tropic of Capricorn.

  3. DesertsBiodiversity • Plant species: Hot deserts- all ground-hugging shrubs and short woody trees. Cold deserts- sagebrush and shrubs. • Animal species: Hot deserts- nocturnal carnivores, burrowers, Horned Vipers, and Camels. Cold deserts- Antelope, Ground Squirrels, Jack Rabbits, and Kangaroo Rats. *There are about 15-20 different animal species in the desert biome.

  4. DesertsAdaptations Needed for Survival • The adaptations needed for survival..... Plants: Plants store water for long periods of time. Animals: Animals burrow the ground to keep cool.

  5. DesertsInteractions of Biotic and Abiotic • Biotic: The plants are able to store water, therefore they can survive. Abiotic: The animals use plants, and the ground to burrow in because of the hot temperatures.

  6. What is Biodiversity? • Biodiversity is the diversity among and within plant and animal species in an environment.

  7. How does biodiversity contribute to the sustainability of an ecosystem? *Biodiversity is very important to our ecosystem. If we did not have biodiversity our ecosystem would lack many things.
