Faculty Compensation • Officers of Instruction are paid semi-monthly around the 15th and 30th of the month. • Direct Deposit is the best mechanism to receive your paychecks. • Login to PeopleSoft system through www.my.columbia.edu with uni and password to review your paycheck. Faculty Compensation • Extra work performed or payments outside of annual compensation are paid at the end of the month after the work is completed. • Weekend coverage provided on 7/17 will be paid with paycheck on 8/31. • Questions related to your individual pay structure/benefits should be addressed with Divisional Administrator of Departmental Payroll office. Maintaining Credentials and Good Standing • Once you are appointed to the Faculty you are obligated to comply with a number of compliance processes and remain in good standing with the Department of Medicine. • Orientation Session III will review all of the compliance processes in detail but a summary of them include: • Conflict of Interest – Annual Conflict of Interest Policy Regarding Education and Clinical Care for P&S Faculty needs to be filed annually using electronic system “RASCAL”. • Annual Health – September - October Completing the AHR is a requirement of the New York State Public Health Law. There are two parts to completing an AHR: Filling out a health questionnaire and Medical surveillance testing (for most physicians, this will be a PPD) Department of Medicine – Faculty Orientation Session 1

Maintaining Credentials and Good Standing • Fit Testing  - September-October • As part of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital’s commitment to the safety of our patients and staff, and in support of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, medical staff who have direct patient contact must be fit tested for N95 masks each year.  • Influenza - October – November • NewYork-Presbyterian strongly encourage all CUMC faculty, staff and students to get the seasonal flu vaccination now, and the H1N1 vaccination when it becomes available. Please protect yourself, your families, your colleagues and our patients by getting vaccinated. • Annual Hospital Training - October – November • This is an online training course which includes several training modules some mandatory to all and others dependant on your responsibilities and duties.  The content in these courses is intended to be a review of information you should already know.    Timely completion of the course is required not to incur a fine.   Non-completion is considered voluntary termination. Maintaining Credentials and Good Standing • Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE) – 3 months after NYPH Appointment effective date • Physicians are reviewed on Quality Assurance and/or Mortality-Complication rate, Patient Complaints-compliments, resident evaluations. • Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) – Bi-annual • All Clinicians in each Service have to be reviewed and evaluated using the Services/Departments Clinical indicators.  If outside of the departments norms when reviewed the clinician/s are reviewed for an additional three months period (FPPE). • Reappointment – December – February (All new hires from 7/1/11 – 11/1/11 will have to reappoint) • Physicians have to reapply for NYPH appointment online.  All credentials are re-verified, privileges are renewed, CME’s need to be summarized.  Reappointments have to be approved by both the University and NYPH Medical Staff. Hiring and Managing Staff • Hiring Faculty, Research Staff , Administrative Staff or Support Personnel is a complex process. • Contact your Divisional Administrator for support in managing through the process of hiring. • Review Website for sample templates that include job descriptions and relevant qualifications. Review Workflows to understand reasonable timetable for process. • Once job description is created and funding source is identified, position will be graded and fit in the correct job/employer category. Hiring and Managing Staff • Department of Medicine positions exist in: • Columbia University – Officers of Instruction, Officers of Research, Officers of Administration, Support Staff Personnel • E. 61st St. – Service Corporation – Positions that support Clinical Practices • New York Presbyterian Hospital – Positions that support hospital functions in “hospital space” • Review and understand the policies surrounding the type of staff you will hire to support your role/operation. • Support Staff Union positions are managed by a negotiated contract. • SSA/1199 – Columbia University Medical Center • 1199 – New York Presbyterian Hospital Department of Medicine – Faculty Orientation Session 1
