  1. How to make this a slideshow • To view this as a slideshow, go to the bottom of the screen, and there will be a series of 5 very small buttons. You will still be in the Power Point screen, not at the start button. You can choose how to view the slides by these buttons. When you put your mouse on the buttons, they should say something such as “Normal View” or “Slideshow.” Click on the button that says slideshow. You can then go through the slides by clicking the left side of the mouse when you are done reading each slide. Enjoy!

  2. National Call Breeders of America~ Senior Division entry This is my Spring Contest entry. The entry is from Bethany Stellpflug 7136 Adams Road, Hemlock, New York, 14466 (585) 367-9294 bethanysbantams@frontiernet.net

  3. Introduction Hi! Welcome to my entry for the National Call Breeders of America Spring Contest entry from Bethany Stellpflug! I used a trio of pastels for this project, and have given each of the birds an overall grade. I really hope you enjoy my entry!

  4. The Call Ducks I used • I chose to use a trio of Pastel Call ducks, named Sugar Cookie, Chocolate Chip Cookie and Susan.

  5. Chocolate Chip Cookie Chocolate Chip Cookie is the drake I used in my trio.

  6. Chocolate Chip Cookie~Strengths • I think that Chocolate Chip Cookie has good legs, coloring and has good wings, as he neatly folds them, as the Standard of Perfection describes for the perfect Call Duck.

  7. Chocolate Chip Cookie~Weaknesses • Chocolate Chip Cookie has a bill that is a little longer than it should be. He also has a straight breast area, and he could be better in that area. His head is not as round as it should be. • Even though he is not the best, he is still a good drake to breed with my hens.

  8. Why I chose Chocolate Chip Cookie • I chose Chocolate Chip Cookie because, for one thing, he and Sugar Cookie are paired up so well, so that if you separate them, they are very upset! My other drake that I could have used is named Peter, but I think that Sugar Cookie should be bred to Chocolate Chip Cookie.

  9. Chocolate Chip Cookie~Overall rating • I would overall rate Chocolate Chip Cookie with a C-

  10. Sugar Cookie • Sugar Cookie is my Pastel Call duck hen. She is one of my favorite ducks, and is the loudest duck we have!

  11. Sugar Cookie~Strengths • Sugar Cookie has a good head, neck, nice short legs, a nicely rounded breast, but it could improve a little bit. Her overall body type is great! Her eyes are set nicely in the center of her head, and describes “Call Ducks” very well, since she is so loud!

  12. Sugar Cookie~Weaknesses • Sugar Cookie has poor coloring, as she is to dark, and could improve her posture for showing, and for taking pictures! Other that that, she is a very good quality Call Duck.

  13. Why I chose Sugar Cookie • I chose Sugar Cookie because of her good qualities, except for her dark feathers. • She is one of my favorite Calls. I love her personality.

  14. Sugar Cookie~ Overall rating • I would overall rate Sugar Cookie with a B

  15. Susan • Susan is my Pastel Call duck pullet. I bought her last year from Mr. Art Lundgren. I do not have her in the breeding pen now, because Sugar Cookie and Chocolate Chip Cookie seem to be paired for life, the were mean to her when I put her in the breeding pen. I had to take her out, so now I only have the 2 ducks in the breeding pen, Chocolate Chip Cookie and Sugar Cookie! I do not have any more hens to put in the breeding pen at this time.

  16. Susan~ Strengths • Susan has a good bill, coloring, and a good rounded breast.

  17. Susan~ Weaknesses • Susan has a poor head, longer legs than she should and a neck that is a little longer that it really should be.

  18. Why I chose Susan • I chose Susan because she, at the time I put her in, was the only hen I could use.

  19. Susan~ Overall rating • I would overall rate Susan a C

  20. Sugar Cookie’s leg band is green and has the number 18 on it. Chocolate Chip Cookie also has a green leg band and has the number 22 on it. LEGBANDS

  21. What I want to achieve from these ducks • I would like to get better ducklings that would have better coloring than Sugar Cookie, since I am breeding Chocolate Chip Cookie’s good coloring with Sugar Cookie’s poor coloring. I would hope to get better body type, since Sugar Cookie has better body type that Chocolate Chip’s. I hope also to get better neck, head and bills, since I am breeding Sugar Cookie’s great neck, head, and bill with Chocolate Chip Cookie’s not the best, but OK head, neck and not so great bill.

  22. I would like to get a duck that has outstanding qualities from these two birds

  23. Hatching • I have received lots of eggs from Sugar Cookie, but seem to not be able to incubate them. We are getting a lot of whites, and a gray Call duckling. The pastels get so far in their development, and them die, which is very disappointing. I am still trying very hard to hatch at least one Pastel.

  24. Hatching under a hen • I set Pastel Call duck eggs under a broody Rhode Is. Red SCCL Bantam Hen. I hope these Pastels hatch!!!

  25. What I want to see happen from this breeding • I really would like to breed these duck together for a Champion Pastel. It would really be nice to have a good quality Pastel that I hatched out.
