I’m Judy Trimarchi, and I’m the new editor of the Tyline. Thanks so much to Penny Firth, the recently retired editor who did such a wonderful job for so many years, and made the transition very easy for me. I have lived in Vienna for 32 years and in Tysons Woods for over 10 years, and I LOVE my beautiful home on Litwalton Court. I invite you to send me articles, recipes, restaurant reviews, etc., to be included in future TyLines. Winter Social Huge Success! 3. Elementary School Update: VES and Freedom Hill There is a proposition that will be on the School Board agenda on April 8th that proposes changes to the school borders of Vienna Elementary School (VES) and Freedom Hill Elementary School (FHES). The changes will result in about 35 students that are currently attending Freedom Hill moving to Vienna Elementary School. This change should not impact any households in the Tysons Woods Neighborhood. Parents at both schools seem open to and supportive of the potential change that will most likely occur in the 2013/2014 school year. The additional 35 children are across multiple grades and should not impact class size at VES. VES is currently under capacity while FHES is significantlyover. For the full meeting notes from the VES PTA Meeting, please visit the VES PTA website at www.ves-pta.org. Council OKs Noise-Mitigation Plan for FBI Facility The Sun Gazette reports that an agreement has been reached regarding the noise produced by the dry cooling towers at the FBI facility on Follin Lane: Vienna residents finally will get relief from the cooling-unit cacophony at the FBI’s Terrorist Screening Center, thanks to a noise-remediation plan unanimously agreed to Jan. 28 by the Vienna Town Council. Noise at the Liberty Park facility has been the source of pointed contention from neighbors since summer 2010. Nearby residents complained that the 230 fans in the facility’s 23 rooftop dry-cooling units produced a roar resembling a helicopter landing next door. Under the approved plan, facility officials will install two ground-level cooling towers that will use three “whisper quiet” fans each. Each tower will be about 20 feet long, 12 feet wide and 20 feet high. The agreement also permits installation of a third such tower if necessary. The dry-cooler units, each of which is the size of a conference room, will remain in place and will be used only under extraordinary circumstances, such as the failure of both cooling towers on the ground, project officials said. Project officials aim to have the installation completed by April, before the next hot season begins, Craig Smith, senior project manager with Donahoe Construction Co., which is designing and building the project. The cooling towers will be located by the TSC building’s southeastern corner and will be screened from residents by the building itself, as well as the noise-attenuation wall, said Larry Caruthers of Bowman Consulting Group Ltd. “It has been a long road, but I think I’m getting a glimpse of the ‘promised land’ just off in the not-too-distant future,” [neighborhood resident] Foley wrote. “Let’s hope that the promise rings true.” To access the entire Sun Gazette article, click below: http://www.sungazette.net/mclean-greatfalls-vienna-oakton/news/neighbors-rejoice-as-council-oks-noise-mitigation-plan-for-fbi/article_51059976-6ac3-11e2-81c7-001a4bcf887a.html Tysons Woods Real Estate Update1/1/12 and 4/1/13 Information provided by: Robin K.
