  3. Topics Covered • Topics to be covered will be: • Oral Presentation Skills • Techniques for giving a successful talk • Preparation of lecture material • Small and Large Group Lecturing

  4. Topics Covered • Poster Presentation (Group) • Why and when posters are used • Good and bad practice when laying out a poster • You will be required as a group to produce an A1 poster on a specified topic

  5. Topics Covered • WWW Page Production • HTML Theory • We will also briefly cover • WWW Clients/Servers • E-Commerce • Security/Caching etc.

  6. Topics Covered • Circuit Layout and PCB production • To assist you in both final year projects, and when leaving University we will look at using CAD packages for PCB production

  7. Topics Covered • Topics to be covered will be: • Careers Based Information • CV Preparation • Interview Techniques • NB. The exact content of the work done in this part of the course is decided by the careers service.

  8. Assessment Methods • 100 % Course work • 7 Exercises • Listed on Module Handout • Handout for each will be given

  9. Assessment 1 - 0% • 10 Minute talk in tutorial • You will be given marking scheme • Mark does not count towards final mark

  10. Assessment 2 - 10% (20%) • A Second tutorial talk • Again 10 Mins in length • Same marking scheme • This time the mark does count !

  11. Assessment 3 - 15% • Poster Presentation • Produced in group of 5 maximum! • Submitted at the end of the module • Topic to be given later

  12. Assessment 4 - 15% • WWW Page Production • You will work in the same groups as for the poster, and the page will be one designed to complement that work • Marking will be done at the end of the semester by various members of staff ( working blind as to group membership )

  13. Assessment 5 - 10% • PCB Design • You will be given a badly drawn schematic which you must • Lay out using your choice of PCB design package • Produce a PCB for the circuit, the size of which will be fixed.

  14. Assessment 6 - 30% (60%) • Group Talk • Given after 2nd semester exams • 20 Minutes in Length • 15 Min. talk • 5 Min. Question & Answer • Same marking scheme as for previous presentations will be used

  15. Assessment 7 - 20% (20%) • Completing a SAF & CV • Attending BOTH careers lecturers

  16. Teaching Methods • Combination of • Standard Lecture • Software demonstrations • Tutorial Work (talks) • Video material • 2 Seminars by the Careers Service

  17. Book list • No Required Book • Handouts will be given • OHP Slides • General Information • Oral Presentation Skills booklet • Software as required will be placed on the server for you to use.
