Finding Off-Campus Housing • Begin with broad options and then narrow down. • Prioritize the type of housing you want to live in. • Develop a financial budget for rent, utilities, food, transportation, entertainment and emergency costs. • Consider what types of transportation are available and convenient. • Research the area’s safety by looking up area crime statistics. • Look before you lease. • Get it in writing! Read and understand your lease. If you have questions visit the Office of Undergraduate and Graduate Legal Aid for assistance. • Consider if you want to invest in a dining plan. • Consider obtaining renters’ insurance.

  6. Top 10 Off-Campus Terp Tips! • You’re a Terp – Stay connected and get involved on campus! • Be safe. Use your common sense and make safe choices. • Lock your door and take your keys with you. • Travel in well-lit areas. • Make sure smoke detectors work, etc. • Being someone’s friend doesn’t make them an automatic good roommate choice. • Find potential roommates who have the same living preferences as you. (e.g., cleanliness, sleeping habits, perspective on guests, etc.) • Think about how you’re going to get groceries and other necessities.
