Dominate Paws. QUESTION. Do dogs have a dominate paw like people have dominate hands?. P urpose. The purpose of my investigation is to determine if dogs have a dominate paw or not. This is important to know because I am curious to see if dogs are like humans. Hypothesis.

  2. QUESTION • Do dogs have a dominate paw like people have dominate hands?

  3. Purpose • The purpose of my investigation is to determine if dogs have a dominate paw or not. This is important to know because I am curious to see if dogs are like humans.

  4. Hypothesis • I hypothesize that dogs have a dominate paw like humans have a dominate hand. I believe this because I see tons of dogs reaching out with a certain paw every time I walk by a random one.

  5. Procedure

  6. Materials • paper • dog treats • dogs • paper towels

  7. Variables • Manipulated: dog • Responding: Left or right pawed • Constant : • Brand of dog treats • Paper towel • Method of testing

  8. Directions 1. Get a role of paper towels and put one on the ground. 2. Get a dog treat and put it underneath the paper towel. 3. Show the dog where the treat is then hold it down. 4. Make the dog lay down and let it know there is a treat so they will reach out for it. 5. Watch the dog and see which paw it uses to try to get the treat. Record which paw they used. 6. Repeat 1-5 for four more trials. 7. Repeat 1-6 with four more dogs.

  11. Conclusion • My hypothesize was incorrect. Dogs do not have a dominate paw like people have a dominate hand. The average with the left paw was 2.2 out of 5 and the average of the right paw was the same, 2.2 out of 5. If I could change my investigation I would blind fold the dog and make it sniff for the treat.
