  1. Philippians--Unity Avenue Vineyard January 30, 2011

  2. Philippians 1:27 27Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ.

  3. Philippians 2:1-11 2 Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? 2Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

  4. Philippians 2:1-11 cont’d 3Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others (vain conceit). Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

  5. “In essentials unity; in non-essentials liberty; and in all things charity” Sometimes attributed to Augustine but doubtful.

  6. Philippians 2:1-11 cont’d 5You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. 6Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. 7Instead, he gave up his divine privileges he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being.

  7. Philippians 2:1-11 cont’d When he appeared in human form, 8he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. 9Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, 10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.

  8. Mark 10:42-45 “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. 43But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, 44and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. 45For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

  9. “The Church does not exist for itself but for Christ and for the world.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer

  10. 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 – The Message “I have voluntarily become a servant to any and all in order to reach a wide range of people: religious, nonreligious, meticulous moralists, loose-living immoralists, the defeated, the demoralized – whoever. I didn’t take on their way of life. I kept my bearings in Christ—but I entered their world and tried to experience things from their point of view. I’ve become just about every sort of servant there is in my attempts to lead those I meet into a God-saved life. I did all this because of the Message. I didn’t just want to talk about it; I wanted to be in on it!
