  1. Sport in Pilton By Tabitha Wilkinson

  2. In Pilton, we play lots of different sports. We play: Tennis Table Tennis Basketball Cricket Football Rugby

  3. Football (Piłka Nożna) Football is a team game, with two teams of 11 playing against each other. The purpose of the game is to score a “goal” (strzelić gola) into a large net (siatka), by kicking the football (piłka futbolowa) into it. Each team has a “goalkeeper” (bramkarz) who tries to knock the ball away from the net. Only the goalkeeper can use his hands in this game, all other players must kick (kopać) the ball. The team with the most goals wins.

  4. Cricket(Krykiet) Cricket is another team game, played with a bat (kij krykietowy) and ball (piłka do krykieta). The “bowler” (zawodnik serwujący) bowls (rzucać) the ball at the “batsman” (zawodnik odbijający) who has to hit the ball with his bat, not allowing it to hit the “wicket” (bramka). If the ball hits the wicket, he is out (aut). If he hits the ball, he has to run up and down until the ball is returned to the bowler by a “fielder”. Each “run” scores points and the team with the most points wins.

  5. Tennis(Tenis) Tennis can be played in doubles (debel) or singles (singel) with a racket (rakieta) and a ball (piłka). The ball is hit between both people over a net (siatka) with the rackets. When a player misses the ball or hits it too far, a point is given to the other player. Each turn is called a “set” and the first player to win 2 sets wins the game!

  6. Rugby Rugby is a team game, played with an egg-shaped ball (piłka). Players have to score a “try” (przylożenie) by getting the ball over a line at the end of the rugby pitch (boisko do rugby). Points are also scored by a kick (kopać) to the ball, which goes through the “goalposts”. A player (zawodnik) is allowed to “tackle” (szarżować) other players to get the ball and the team with the most points wins.

  7. Basketball(Koszykówka) Basketball is played with two teams of 5, when points are scored by a throw (rzucać) of a ball (piłka) into a “basket” (kosz). Players must “bounce” (odbijać) the ball and pass (podanie) to each other. Then, they must “shoot” (strzelać) the ball into the basket. The team with the most points at the end of the game, wins.

  8. Table Tennis (Tenis Stołowy) Table Tennis can be played in singles (singel) or doubles (debel), similar to Tennis. Players use a “paddle” (rakietka) to hit the ball over the small “net” (siatka). The ball must “bounce” (odbijać) on the table before being hit and must not hit the net. When a player misses the ball or hits it “out” (aut), the other player gets a point. The first player to score 11 points wins!
