  1. WHEN TIME BEGINS “Now the LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year to you” (Ex. 12:1-2)

  2. What About Before? • What had been the first month? • Do slaves keep a calendar? Did anyone in Egypt? • Shorter lesson than usual this morning. • Sometimes the real message gets lost in the verbosity.

  3. Ephesians 1:18-19 • What a beautiful prayer, and concept. • In Ex. God determined to take a people to himself, bring them to the promised land. • A shadow of good things to come – in Christ. • Let us understand His will in our lives, and that it is accomplished by His omnipotent hand.

  4. Jewish Sacrifices • Sin offering – Lev. 4 • Guilt offering – Lev. 19 • Peace offering (Wave offering) – Lev. 9 • Heave Offerings, Drink Offerings, Burnt Offerings, etc. • Special Feasts: Unleavened Bread; First Fruits; Weeks (Pentecost); Trumpets; Atonement; Tabernacles. • Bur, first and foremost is this one in Ex. 12: Passover. • Time begins here.

  5. Christ, Our Passover • I Cor. 5:7 • All sacrifices point to Our Lamb. • How we cringe about the details of OT law. They are of NO use to us. How wrong. The gospel in the OT. • Christ – a “Surety” for us. Guarantees our debt. • How dare I come, with all my imperfections about me, to a God of infinite holiness. • My sins are buried in the grave with Christ.

  6. “He that believeth… • On me, though he were dead, yet shall he live…will never die…” (John 11:25-26). • We never begin to live till we live to God. • Passover – the night of deliverance: staff in hand, shoes on feet, loins girded. Be Ready! • Eph. 2:1-7 • 2 Cor. 6:16-7:1

  7. The Blood of the Passover Lamb • On doorpost and lintel – they passed thru it to freedom. • Thru His blood we pass to freedom. • Have you done that? • Rom. 6:3; Acts 22:16; Eph. 1:7.
