Update • Held 9 meetings with library directors and techies in August • Attended E-rate training in Washington Sept. 27th-29th • Provided E-rate training on Oct. 5th with Teri Lawrence • Held discussions with BellSouth, OTM, State Procurement (ongoing) • Drafted RFP November 2004 (at OTM/Procurement) • Drafted Technology Plan template (in beta testing)

  3. Goals • Upgrade bandwidth as needed throughout the State • Comply with E-rate and State regulations • Provide support for E-rate for public libraries • Maintain a stable and expandable network

Next Steps • November 2004 – June 2005 • Install 5 DS3 circuits (Lake Charles, EBR, Shreveport, Jefferson, Ouachita) at hub locations • Install 5 hub routers – Cisco 7204 • Install 5 hub firewalls • Upgrade hubs to 6 meg and 3 meg access • Upgrade 7 other headquarter libraries to 3 meg connections • Install 7 other headquarters routers – Cisco 2800

FY 04-05 Cont’d • In preparation for FY 05-06 • Produce RFP for Internet access and connectivity for all public libraries • Provide E-rate training via Teri Lawrence on Dec. 1. 2004 • File 470 for 348 libraries • File 471 for hubs and headquarters libraries • Provide technology plan template • Approve new technology plans for libraries

The SLL RFP • Internet access for 348 libraries • Connectivity for 348 libraries • State Library to pay for hubs and headquarters • Public Libraries to pay for branches based on contracted price list • Routers and installation for remaining headquarters libraries • Maintenance for all hub and headquarters routers • Monitoring of network

Deadlines • November 29th -- Sign & return Letters of Agency to SLL • Now - Jan. 15th – Decision must be made whether you will upgrade branches in 05-06. • Jan 20th- Feb 17th -- File 471s for SLL 470 • Dec 14th - Feb 17th -- File 471s for Library 470s • Now - Feb/Mar -- File 486 for FY04-05 if you just received your Funding Commitment Letter • Feb. 16th, 2005 -- Submit Technology Plan to SLL
