  3. AULD LANG SYNE. And we'll take a cup o’ kindness yet, for auld langsyne. We two have run about the braes. and pound the go wans fine ; But we’ve wandered many a weary fit, Since auld langsyne. We two have paddled in the stream, From morning sun till dine ; But seas between us broad have roared Since auld langsyne. And there’s a hand my trusty friend! And give us a hand o’ thine !   8. Do you know August 1 is International Friendship Day (国际友谊节)? International Friendship Day is a day for celebrating friendship. The day has been celebrated in several southern South American countries for many years, particularly in Paraguay (巴拉圭), where the first World Friendship Day was proposed in 1958.

  9. The exchange of Friendship Day gifts like flowers, cards and wrist bands is a popular tradition of this occasion. Friendship Day celebrations occur on different dates in different countries. The first World Friendship Day was proposed for 30 July 1958. On 27 April 2011 the General Assembly of the United Nations declared 30 July as official International Friendship Day. However, some countries, including India, celebrate Friendship Day on the first Sunday of August.

  20. Background This is a true story. It took place in Amsterdam, Holland in the early 1940s after the German Nazis had occupied most of Europe. The Nazi Party ruled Germany from 1933 to 1945. One of their key policies was to kill all the Jews in Europe. If any persons known to be Jews were found, they would be sent to concentration camps farther east, mostly in Poland.

  21. Families were separated and transported in trains. For many days, they went without food, water, sanitation or fresh air. To avoid this terrible fate, some Jewish families went into hiding, often with the help of non-Jewish friends. This diary was written during the time when Anne and her family moved to escape from being killed by Nazis.

  22. Schindler's List is a 1993 epic drama film directed and co-produced by Steven Spielberg and scripted by Steven Zaillian. It is based on the novel Schindler's Ark by Thomas Keneally, an Australian novelist. The film tells the story of Oskar Schindler, a German businessman who saved the lives of more than a thousand mostly Polish-Jewish refugees during the Holocaust by employing them in his factories. In 2007, the American Film Institute ranked the film 8th on its list of the 100 best American films of all time.

  27. 2. What was an ordinary diary like according to Anne? What about her diary? She thought an ordinary diary was where most people like to set down a series of facts. But Anne wrote down her deepest feelings and thoughts in her diary. She told everything to her best friend --- her diary.
