The 2nd Epistle of our Teacher St. Paulto the Corinthians Date and Location of Writing: + St. Paul wrote this epistle in the year A.D. 57, few months following the first one, from a city within the region of Macedonia: “Moreover, brethren, we make known to you the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia” (2 Corinthians 8:1) The Purpose of Writing the Epistle: 1. To show them his joy for their repentance: “Therefore I rejoice that I have confidence in you in everything” (2 Corinthians 7:16)

  3. The 2nd Epistle to the Corinthians 2. To urge them to accept the sinner who repented: “You ought rather to forgive and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one be swallowed up with too much sorrow. Therefore I urge you to reaffirm your love to him… I have forgiven that onefor your sakes in the presence of Christ, lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices” (2 Corinthians 2:7-8,10-11) 3. To defend his apostolic rights: “But in all things we commend ourselves as ministers of God: in much patience, in tribulations, in needs, in distresses, in stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in sleeplessness, in fastings; by purity, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Spirit, by sincere love, by the word of truth, by the power of God” (2 Corinthians 6:4-7)

The 2nd Epistle to the Corinthians “For I consider that I am not at all inferior to the most eminent apostles” (2 Corinthians 11:5) “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:13-14) “How he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter” (2 Corinthians 12:4) - Hence, it can be noticed that this letter is the most biographical and least doctrinal of St. Paul's epistles. It tells us more about St. Paul as a person and as a minister, where it never happened that St. Paul spoke about himself in any other epistle more than this one.

  5. The 2nd Epistle to the Corinthians Contents: I. Introduction: (Ch.1) 1. Greeting: “Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God” (1 Corinthians 1:1) 2. Comfort in Sufferings: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God” (1 Corinthians 1:3-4)

Being the Fragrance of Christ: “Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing” (2 Corinthians 2:14-15)

Service of the Spirit, Not the Letter: “Who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life” (2 Corinthians 3:6) 4. Transforming to the Image of Christ: “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18) 5. Do not Lose Heart: “Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart” (2 Corinthians 4:1)

For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18) “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10)
