  2. Tides • Caused mainly by the differences in how much the moon’s gravity pulls on different parts of Earth.

  3. The Tide Cycle • The moon’s gravity causes high tides on the side closest to the moon. • Low tides occurs between the two high tides

  4. Spring Tides • The gravity of the sun and moon pull in the same direction. • Combined forces that produce a tide with the greatest difference between consecutive low and high tides are springtides.

  5. Neap Tides • The sun’s pull is at right angles to the moon’s pull • A tide with the least difference between consecutive low and high tides are neaptides.
