  4. Target Group/ Audience Students of: • Tbilisi State Medical University (TSMU), medical school, school of public health • Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA) Faculty of Law • Medical School “AIETY” Medical Faculty

  5. Course Description: This course will introduce students to advanced concepts in health law

  6. Overall Objective: Improve understanding of health legislation

  7. Specific Objectives: • This course is designed to introduce students to the legal issues that arise from the relationships between and among patients and health care providers. • Primary areas include: conflicts between cost effective and high quality health care; access to care; individual and institutional liability; professional standards and norms, patients rights with special focus on informed consent and other legal issues.

Health and Human Rights • Health and international Human Rights • Overview of International covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural rights; /Article 12/ • UN Committee on Economical, Social and Cultural rights /Article 12/ • UN Special Rapporteur on health issues; • Health and human rights of children • Health and women’s human rights • Health and human rights of minority population • Social stress, stigma and health; • Minority stress, victimization and mental health; • Sexual minority health; • Prejudice, discrimination and health outcomes

Rise Public awareness of health legislation through media • Basic principles of journalism; objectiveness, fairness, balance. attribution, using multiple sources, meeting deadlines, how editorial decisions are made • Ethics of Journalism; what language to use while covering diversity groups of society • Principles of health coverage how to produce in- depth, professional, balanced health stories avoid jargon, investigate controversial claims • Media Analysis (health legislation related stories)
