  2. About Me • Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from The University of Texas at Austin (2010) • Graduate of the UTeach Program • Taught in Austin, TX (2010-2011) • Taught at Issaquah High (2011 - present)

  3. Goals for the year • To improve your student’s knowledge about math. • To provide a safe, motivating, and supportive atmosphere for your student. • To prepare your student for future mathematics courses (both AP and college)

  4. Expectations • Students come to class prepared everyday. • Students complete all assignments to the best of their ability. • Students encourage each other and build a support system. • Students respect their environment and their peers. • Students are honest and responsible for their own learning. • Students ask for help when it is needed.

  5. Pre-Calculus Overview The Pre-Calculus course is designed to reinforce Algebra topics and to introduce Calculus ideas. We will study the following: • Types of Functions and their properties • Trigonometry • Sequences and Series • Probability and Statistics • Matrices, Parametric Equations, and Vectors • Conic Sections (parabola, hyperbola, ellipse, circle)

  6. AP Calculus AB Overview THIS COURSE IS GOING TO BE CHALLENGING. Calculus consists of three major topics: • Limits • Derivatives • Integration At the end of the course, your student will be prepared to take the AP Exam. I encourage ALL students to take the exam. AP Exam: Tuesday, May 5th, 2013 8:00 am

  7. Calculator Requirement • TI-84/Plus • TI-Nspire • Calculator Loan Program - from ISF • Student checks out calculator for year from bookroom • Form needs to be signed by parent/guardian and math teacher

  8. Homework Policy • HW should take less than one hour (on average) • Late HW is accepted at half credit • Working with groups or partners is OK if it is COLLABORATION and not COLLUSION • Encourage your student to stay after school for help on homework or email me
