  2. Where he grew up Steven Spielberg is Hollywood's best known director and one of the richest filmmakers in the world. He was born in Cincinnati on December 18, 1946, and raised in the suburbs of Haddonfield New Jersey and Scottsdale Arizona.

  3. Love for movies Stephen Spielberg is the most successful filmmaker in history. He began directing his first short movies while still a child, later studying film at California State University and winning notice for his 1969 short feature Amblin.

  6. Career highlights He won an award for best Director. In 1998, he revisited World War II, this time from the perspective of American soldiers in Europe in Saving Private Ryan which earned him another Academy Award for Best Director.

  7. DreamWorks Creation In 1994 Spielberg formed a new studio, DreamWorks In 2001 he completed the science fiction film Artificial Intelligence, a project begun by Stanly Kubrick.

  8. Early careers Stephen Spielberg was an amateur filmmaker as a child. He had to moved several times growing up and spent part of his youth in Arizona. He became one of the youngest television directors for Universal in the late 1960s.

He received the Irving G. Thunberg Memorial Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 1986. He was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 2005.
