PSSCs • An ability to achieve different levels of roasting based on user input. • An ability to detect the temperature of the beans. • An ability to monitor the color of the beans • An ability to interact with the user via GUI • An ability to shut off the device if unusual conditions (high temperatures, unusual color in roasting area)are detected.

  3. RoHS Compliance • Teledyne AC relay RoHS in transition • Radioshack Transformer is unknown, assuming no • Hacrocam’s camera unsure (other sites say yes) • All other components RoHSCompliant

  4. Manufacture • Solder • Can contain lead, tin, silver, copper • PCB Fabrication • Chemical etching – often uses ferric chloride and other acids • ICs • Manufacture process contains many hazardous chemicals. • LCD Display • Known to use sulfur hexafluoride in manufacturing • Anti-Heat Spray • As a spray paint, contributes to VOC (>>>>5%)

  5. Normal Use • LCD Screen • Condensation on terminals can cause an electrochemical reaction disrupting the terminal circuit • Power Consumption • Will be drawing a lot of power while on. • Heating Coils & Fan: ~10.8W • Other parts: > 45 mW

  6. Disposal/Recycling • Unit will need to be recycled • Sites like greenergadgets.org can help people find electronics recycling spots. • Electronic units will be hard to separate from the packaging

  7. Solutions • Manufacturing • Minimize PCB size • Normal Use • Provide operating instructions to ensure a suitable environment is used for roasting • Disposal/Recycling • Provide proper disposal instructions.
