Castle TimeChallenge All Students To Learn Everyday • Flexible, ability based reading and math groups • Mon – Wed: Reading • Thurs – Fri: Math • We will be basing groups on assessments and classroom performance • These groups will provide remediation and enrichment for students • The groups will be evaluated and adjusted as students progress

  6. Student Planners/Folders • Student Handbook • On Fridays, your child’s weekly work will be sent home. Please empty your child’s planner before sending it back on Monday • Please check and initial your child’s planner nightly • Look for a color code to inform you about your child’s behavior.

  7. Behavior Management • Every day students will start on the Black box • Color will be stamped in the planner daily!

  8. Homework • Please refer to Homework Tips for information on how to make homework time less stressful. (webpage) • Homework will be written in the student’s planner on Monday for the remainder of the week. • Nightly Homework • Grammar Sheet (1 per week) • Sumdog / Moby Math • Kidbiz (4 steps) • Spelling practice

Assessments • SRI (Scholastics Reading Inventory) • Don’t be shocked with levels! • Measured in Lexiles • End of 2nd Grade (300 600 Lexile) • Mclass • Should be a level I/J at the beginning of the year • Writing component • Math • Topic Tests / Quarterly Tests • AIMS Web: 2 tests (screened 3 times a year) • Writing • Developing by end of 2nd grade • See Rubric

  10. Report Cards • On the 3rd quarter report card, only the math scores may change • Conferences • 1st 9 weeks with all parents • As needed for remainder of the year

PBIS • Positive Behavior Intervention Support • School Wide Rewards/ Consequences • Celebrations are held in the classroom once the class has earned enough star tickets for the activity • Students will also be able to earn individual star tickets. Each week a star student will be recognized from each grade level. • Above and Beyond Behavior

  12. All volunteers must complete: • Volunteer Application in the front office • Background Check • Volunteer Training conducted at school • Next Training: Sept. 10 at 5:30 in the gym • If you have completed these in previous years you do not have to do them again for the current year.

  13. Cafeteria • 1st 20 min. GREEN cups (inside voices) • Last 10 min. RED cups (silent voices) • No Charges to Accounts • Parent Tables • No Student Visitors • If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s account, contact the cafeteria manager at 726 - 2598
