  2. CAWT – Who We Are Co-operation and Working Together (CAWT) is a cross border health partnership, comprised of the statutory health and social care services in both jurisdictions in the border region of Ireland/Northern Ireland.

  3. CAWT - What we do • Enable health services to be more accessible within border areas • Attract EU funding to support the development of ‘additional’ services, based on local need • Innovate – pioneer new ways of delivering health services and improving health and social care on a cross border basis

  4. Our work on EU-funded projects EU Special Support Programme for Peace and Reconciliation (€6 million) 1996 to 2000: 7 project areas inc. acute hospital services, ambulance services, primary care, health promotion etc. EU INTERREG IIIA and PEACE II (€12.02 million) 2002 to 2008/9: 44 projects across spectrum of health and social care EU INTERREG IVA (€30 million) 2009 – 2014/15: 12 cross border of health and social care services Other On-going: NPP/Erasmus/Leonardo collaborative projects

  5. GP Out of Hours in Action • Patients accessing health services across the border • Facilitated by GP’s • Helped to overcome obstacles to cross border mobility • Short film clip

Other examples of cross border work • North/South Ministerial Council – North/South Alcohol Policy Advisory Group • Republic of Ireland patients accessing radiotherapy in Northern Ireland • Cross Border Professional Practice in Nursing and Midwifery • Innovative solutions to improving patient safety • Cross Border Emergency Planning annual events – short film clip

Into the Future EU INTERREG V • Will build on the work on EU INTERREG IV increasing services to patients and clients • Wider eligible area • Increased working arrangements between Belfast and Dublin • Opportunity for international partnerships Commitment to other streams of work • North/South Ministerial Council Priorities • Supporting the implementation health policies in both jurisdictions e.g. Transforming Your Care (NI) and Future Health (RoI) • EU/Government/Commissioner/Service Provider Priorities
