Highlight of Current Activities (1) • CCSA IPTV initiatives aim to develop standards which can meet the urgent needs of the telcom, TV and broadband convergence. • Work completed (formally released) • 1st Phase (Aug.2005 – Feb.2006): IPTV Definition, requirement & scenarios, IPTV Architecture and other general Issues • 2nd Phase (Feb.2006 – 2007): Detailed arch. framework for Content delivery, DRM, security, service & network management, content management etc. • Currently focused on Interoperability issues • Interface between IPTV terminal devices and the platform: open and standardized interface is the key factor to reduce the cost of STB • Value added services interfaces (API) enable more SP develop IPTV VADS freely. • Recently completed specifications: • Content Delivery interface • EPG interface • STB remote management interface

Strategic Direction (1) • Focused on Interoperability of IPTV system and terminal devices • Interfaces between IPTV system and terminal devices: interfaces for EPG, media delivery, management etc. • Middleware in IPTV Terminal devices • CCSA members contribute to the ITU-T IPTV activities • IPTV GSI • Cooperation with regional organizations • CJK • APT

  4. Challenges • To balance the flexibility (of service develop & deployment) and standardization work • Diversified service (requirements) under the IPTV “umbrella” vs. uniform architecture and interfaces • To maintain a fare-play environment with the aid of open standards

  5. Next Steps/Actions • Review and update the released specifications to align with the requirements of market when needed • Start new work item to address emerging demands • Continue to participate the IPTV work of ITU and other SDOs
