  2. Motivaton • Federal Ministryofagriculture: • Actualshareof bioeconomy from total economy • a.s.a.p. • Definition of bioeconomy: • All industrialandeconomicsectors • andtheirassociatedservices • whichproduce, processor in anywayusebiologicalresources

  3. Consequences • Tight time schedule Quick results neededNo time for in depth new study • Actual share Most recent possible figures • Information needs Usage of biological resources (biomass) • Value Only activities with economic value • Indicators i) value added and ii) employment

  4. Sources • Studies available? • Are they in line with the definition of the ministry and up to date? • NO, we did not find studies that are consistent with the definition of the ministry. • Official statistics? • International harmonized system! • Offer the possibility for future international comparisons and for actualization.

  5. Decisions resp. calculation rules • Industries which per se deal with biological resources will be considered completely (e.g. dairy industry) • All other industries will be included according to the share of biological resources used as inputs • Imports are not explicitly considered (due to data constrains): Value added based on imports is included • Input industries which do not use biomass will not be considered although they may be essential for the bioeconomy (e.g. agricultural machineries)
