  2. Using the Web Soil Survey • Go to http://websoilsurvey.nrcs.usda.gov (linked on today’s date on course website) • Click on “Start WSS” • Select an Area of Interest (AOI) by navigating by address

  3. Using the Web Soil Survey • Enter SHS’s address: 500 E Fourth Ave, Sutherlin OR Click “View” • Select your Area of Interest (AOI) by clicking the AOI button in the toolbar • Then click “Soil Map”

  4. Using the Web Soil Survey • Information you can find: • Names of soils • Textures/profile • Drainage class • Parent material • Other info

  5. Using the Web Soil Survey • Now click on Soil Data Explorer • Building Site Data • Land Classifications • Land Management • Military Operations

  6. Using the Web Soil Survey • Click on Tab “Soil Properties and Qualities” • See by Chemical properties (pH) • See textures/etc

  7. Using the Web Soil Survey • Your Task: • You will find info for several sites: • Your house • The District Soils CDE site (6874 Mehl Creek Rd, Oakland, OR) • Sutherlin Golf Course • Places of your choice

  8. Using the Web Soil Survey • Your Task: • Name of soil (pick closest one) • Parent material • Profile (textures) • Pick three other bits of information (building info, military operations, erosion, etc)
