  3. The Construction Industry • Growing by more than 250,000 men & women each year • Average craftsperson age is _____? • 48 • Shortage of skilled workers has created an imbalance of skilled workers to willing apprentices for the next 10 yrs.

  4. What is Apprenticeship? • Employed full-time • Attend school one day every other week, one night a week or a block schedule depending on trade • Paid salary while in school • 3, 4, & 5 year training programs • Already have a job upon graduation.

  12. **Based on 3% wage growth for people going through apprenticeship and 6% wage growth for people going to college. College graduates are estimated to be making $30,000 upon graduation.

  13. How can I prepare? • High School Classes • Math: algebra & geometry • Communications Skills: written & oral communication classes • Shop/Tech Ed: woods, metals, construction classes • Just taking the course isn’t good enough, a C or better is needed.

  14. Apprenticeship Requirements • Entrance Test (Accuplacer or TABE)* • ‘C’ of better in algebra** • High School Transcripts or GED • Driver’s License (or means to get to work) *Test is not required for Concrete Finishing, Heavy Equipment, & Roofing. **Algebra is only required for Electronic Systems Technician and Electrical
