  3. Our Goals • To prepare each child for the middle school experience • To challenge each student to reach their fullest potential • To have your child become responsible for their own education

  4. Curriculum • Curriculum is the same as if they were in a middle school setting. • Everything is taught at a Pre-AP (Advanced Placement) level. • Everything taught addresses the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)

  5. Report Cards – New Look • One Report Card for Grades 1-6 • Core Subjects are Reading, English/Language Arts, Math, Science, and Health • Special Area subjects are Art, PE, and Music (will include either Band or Orchestra and may Choir) • Personal Development grades phrasing looks different, but generally the same.

  6. Gradespeed • Utilize it as much as possible to keep track of your child’s progress in school • One bad grade is no reason to panic. Scores are averaged. If there is a pattern of poor grades, then you have our permission panic. • Keep track of your child’s homework completion.

  7. Other Classes • Library • Counselor • Kindergarten Reading Buddies • Second Step (Social Emotional Learning) • German

  8. Work Out for Wellness • Physical activity EVERY DAY • Dress appropriately - Athletic shoes • Water bottles (with names on them) • Participation will be reflected on report card in the personal development grade

  9. What can you do to help us achieve our goals? • Allow your child to take responsibility for their education • Allow logical consequences to happen • Keep a sense of humor! :-)

  10. Issues that ALWAYS come up: • Attendance • Dress code • Missing assignments • Using planners • Changes in your child’s priorities, moods, attitudes, odor

  11. Major Events • The Outdoor School (Oct 17-19) • Fundraising (Back to School Night, Carnival, T-shirts, AxBW) • Sea World or Port Aransas • Sixth Grade Yearbook • Completion Ceremony & Dance • Last Day of School Trip
