  1. Emperors & Kingdoms Logan, Catie, Connnor, and Steven

  2. Introduction • A long long time ago, instead of today’s government, there was things such as emperors and kingdoms. • Started out on rivers.

  3. Indus River • No known kingdoms heard of today.

  4. China Logan Maxwell

  5. Xia Dynasty • Is the first know dynasty of the Chinese area along the Yellow river. • Little is known about their dynasty because no writing remains. • Xia was known for their black pottery.

  8. Shang • They created the most objects out of bronze • They liked human sacrifice a lot. • If a king died, then more than one hundred slaves would join him in the grave. • Some of them were just thrown in still alive. • Later dynasties in China replaced the humans with figures

  11. Western Zhou • Used the father-son kingdom passing unlike the Shang who used brother-younger brother. • The Zhou didn't rule all of what was then China. • China was broken into quasi independent principalities or different regions

  14. Eastern Zhou • The Eastern Zhou was the Zhou dynasty after they had been relocated after the Western Zhou collapse • Many traditions remained the same along with the culture of the Western Zhou

  17. Empires and Kingdoms in the Mesopotamia River Valley

Mesopotamia River Valley • The Mesopotamia River Valley is between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. • Euphrates river has high banks to keep in the annual floods. • The valley is very fertile and this is one reason people settled here. • Endless water and fertile ground made it easier for people to live.

Babylon Nation and Dynasty • In 1894 BC the Babylon nation was founded by Samuabum. • The Babylon nation was a small and powerless nation until the first dynasty got them going in the right direction. • Between 1792- 1750 BC the first Babylonian Dynasty ruled the Mesopotamia Valley by Hammurabi.

  21. The Babylonian empire • Hammurabi was the king that created the Babylonian Empire • The Babylonian empire did not last long because Hammurabi died • The Empire went under Assyrian, Kassite, and Elamite control.

  22. The Neo Babylonian Empire • The Neo Babylonian Empire was established in 612 BC • The capital was Babylon. • Nabonidus was the last ruler of the empire and lost the empire to Persia in the battle of Opis. • The Empire was taken over in 539 BC by the Roman empire.

  23. City of Babylon • Is 55 miles south of Bagdad. • The word Babylon means the gate of God(s). • All that’s left is a mound of mud brick buildings.

The Old Kingdome • 2700 BCE – 2200 BCE • Pharaohs were buried in pyramids onlyduring this time period in history. • Pharaohs had absolute power and were considered gods on earth. • This kingdom is nicknamed "The Pyramid Age” • After they built a few pyramids the Pharaohs realized that pyramids are easy to spot and much easier to rob than a hidden tomb.

The Middle Kingdome • 2100 BCE – 1800 BCE • Was Egypt’s Golden Age. • Trade, arts, and literature flourished. • Egypt had built strong armies to defend itself. • When pharaohs died they did not build huge pyramids, they were buried in hidden tombs. There are tombs yet to be found because they were hidden so well.

  28. The New Kingdome • 1500 BCE – 1000 BCE • The New Kingdome was Egypt's expansion period. • Egypt expanded its borders through military conquest and became a world power. • Pharaohs were all powerful and all were buried in the same area called the Valley of the Kings.

  29. So..... • Many people lived off main rivers of the world. • Rivers were really important for civilizations to form and make governments and countries that eventually became Europe, Asia, and finally America
