  1. Sermon • Summer Songs • Weary of Wandering From My God • Psalm 51

  2. WCF 17 of the Perseverance of the Saints • Nevertheless they may, through the temptations of Satan and of the world, the prevalence of corruption remaining in them, and the neglect of the means of their perseverance, fall into grievous sins; and for a time continue therein:

  3. whereby they incur God's displeasure, and grieve his Holy Spirit; come to be deprived of some measure of their graces and comforts; have their hearts hardened, and their consciences wounded; hurt and scandalize others, and bring temporal judgments upon themselves.

  4. INDICATORS OF SPIRITUAL WANDERING • 1. Spiritually laziness 2 Timothy 2:3-5 • 2. Lack of goals or vision of what the Christian life should be • 3. Spiritual restlessness • 4. Self pity

  5. 5. Pride- in various forms • 6. Murmuring & grumbling • 7. Impurity / Greed • 8. Can’t tolerate criticism and correction - Prov. 9:7-10; 12:1 28:23; • 9. Bitter, angry, negative attitude. Prov. 29:11, 20-23

  6. Weary of wandering from my God, And now made willing to return • I hear and bow me to the rod, For thee, not without hope, I mourn: • I have an Advocate above, A Friend before the throne of love.

  7. My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; 2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. 1 John 2

  8. O Jesus, full of truth and grace More full of grace than I of sin • Yet once again I seek Thy face: Open Thine arms and take me in • And freely my backslidings heal and love the faithless sinner still.

  9. The Law is a mirror to show a person what he is like, a sinner who is guilty of death, and worthy of everlasting punishment. What is this bruising and beating by the hand of the Law to accomplish? This - that we may find the way to grace. The Law is an usher to lead the way to grace.

  10. God is the God of the humble, the miserable, the afflicted. . . When the Law drives you to the point of despair, let it drive you a little farther, let it drive you straight into the arms of Jesus who says: “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” – Martin Luther

  11. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? 33 Who will bring a charge against God's elect? God is the one who justifies;

  12. 34 who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. Romans 8

  13. The stone to flesh again convert, The veil of sin again remove; • Sprinkle Thy blood upon my heart, And melt it by Thy dying love; • This rebel heart by love subdue, And make it soft, and make it new.

  14. John Stott – • “The cross is the blazing fire at which the flame of our love is kindled, but we have to get near enough for its sparks to fall on us.

  15. Thomas Brooks- Precious Remedies Against Satan’s Devices • Remember, it is not hasty reading—but serious meditating upon holy and heavenly truths, that make them prove sweet and profitable to the soul.

  16. My fallen spirit to restore Forgive, and bid me sin no more: • The ruins of my soul repair And make my heart a house of prayer.

  17. Prayer is more than a duty to be fulfilled; it is a gift to be enjoyed.

  18. Seek God’s face, and He will open His arms and take you in.

  19. The ABC’s of coming to faith – • A - Admit that you’re weak and need grace and strength – That means there is GOOD NEWS FOR YOU   • B- Believe that Jesus is the only savior who can heal your heart. • C- confess to God that you want to trust Jesus as your savior and Lord.
