  1. Water and Energy Cycle Project Office (WECPO) P.R. Houser, PI (houser@iges.org) and D.R. Belvedere (debbie@iges.org), Objective: To establish a creative environment facilitating the further development and maintenance of NASA water and energy cycle projects, services and products with emphasis on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the collaboration, data and product/service stream between various program elements. Tasks: Strategic planning: Preparing & periodically updating IP, developing NEWS related planning information Budget oversight: Monitoring NEWS resources allocated, planning future timelines. Implementation and execution: Supporting team coordination. Oversight and evaluation: Evaluating progress against implementation plan and reporting scientific progress & accomplishments. Support and administration: Providing logistical & administrative support on matters for teams and project leadership. Outreach & interchange: Coordinating research planning & implementation matters with Federal agencies & international bodies. Prepare briefing documents outlining accomplishments and plans NASA Energy and Water cycle Study roadmap. • Project status: • Year 1 & 2 complete – • Year 1 – Exploiting current capabilities • Year 2 – Coordination and Integration focus/ Team building/Are we on track? • 1st, and 2nd Annual NEWS meetings held • NEWS Implementation Plan (a living document) and Executive Summary completed • Tasks and Gaps assessment compiled • NDIC established, Data policy in place • NEWS Outreach -Informative NEWS Web presence, NEWS and NEWS applications (WaterNet) presentations given • Houser/Schlosser State of the Water Cycle Paper used as Integration Base • 5 new NEWS Investigators selected to fill gaps • Year 3 (now) • 3rd Annual NEWS meeting held, 1st NEWS letter distributed • Goal: looking within our team for opportunities to integrate our ideas, expertise, and resources to accelerate progress toward water and energy research goals. • 3 NEW Integration Projects begin NEWS linkages:(pull, push, collaborate, external) • Applications: • WaterNet:The NASA Water Cycle • Solutions Network • Integration • State of the Water Cycle database • Integration Project #1: Daily Time Scale • Integration Project #2: Two Golden Years, SGP 2006-2007 focus • Integration Project #3: Annual and Longer time scales Updated: October 31, 2007
