  2. What was the dust bowl? • A series of wind and dust storms. • During this time, farmers had a hard time growing their crops. • The dust bowl hit the United States in the 1930’s. • The dust bowl destroyed over 5 million acres.

  3. What caused the dust bowl? • The soil got very dry. • During the dust storm, people left their homes to see shelter on the road. • The Dust Bowl was caused by hot temperatures and no rain for long periods of times. • This caused the soil to become very dry and dusty.

  4. What type of destruction did the Dust Bowl cause? • The farms were ruined and all the crops were dead. • It was just horrible for all the kids and the parents. • Children had to listen to their parents wearing about money and food. • It was so bad that little kids had to do a lot of work if they lived on a farm, like feeding the animals and milking the cows. • Older children had to do parent jobs and a lot of hard work 

  5. Where did the dust bowl occur? The dust bowl is in Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma.

Interesting Facts • The dust bowl lasted for 10 years. • Before they went to school they milked the cows and fed the chickens, horses and other animals • On windy days the children had to walk backwards, to keep the dust out of their eyes. • Books were dusty and schools were bad. • Children had to move because it was so dusty. • People had to wash clothes in streams.

  7. Interesting facts • On Black Sunday there be a huge black cloud filled with dust. • It destroyed 5 million acres of wheat. • The dust bowl lasted for 10 years. • There was no rain at all. • It was really hard to get money, because it was killing crops.
