  2. Definition of a Veganism • -Veganism is a type of vegetarian diet that excludes meat, eggs, dairy products and all other animal-derived ingredients.

  3. Why Vegans don’t eat animal products? • Many Vegans are very concerned about the inappropriate treatment of farm animals. For many others, the concern is about their health and what changes they can make to promote a better quality of life.

  4. Vegan Nutrition and Protein • Nutrition- Includes fruits, vegetables, plenty of leafy greens, whole grain products, nuts, seeds, legumes, etc. • Protein- Vegan sources include: lentils, chickpeas, tofu, peas, peanut butter, soy milk, almonds, spinach, rice, whole wheat bread, potatoes, broccoli, kale, etc.

  5. Pros of Veganism • Vegans are significantly thinner, their blood pressure levels are lower, and they have lower blood cholesterol levels than other vegetarians and much lower levels than those who eat meat (omnivores). These factors all translate into a lower risk of cardiovascular disease. The lower body weight would also be associated with a lower risk of cancer and diabetes.

  6. Cons of Veganism • Vegans risk low Calcium and vitamin D intakes, this leads to there bones and teeth not being as strong as someone who has dairy in there diet. • Vegans also have dips in energy when they quit eating meat. To prevent this they need to eat lots of protein, iron and other nutrients. • Reading all labels insuring that the food doesn’t contain animal products.

  7. More things vegans cant eat Many vegans also do not eat foods that are processed using animal products, such as refined white sugar, some wines, beer, honey, and marshmallows. But there are many products like these that substitute ingredients to make it vegan. Examples of this is vegan organic beer, organic wine, soy cheese, etc.
