AGS Polarimeter. Vacuum group already pumped on the chamber this morning and the sector valves have been opened. All four (three in vertical) monuted targets survived. This will allow us to use the polarimeter if a vaccum access is not possible before pp run starts.

  1. AGS Polarimeter Vacuum group already pumped on the chamber this morning and the sector valves have been opened. All four (three in vertical) monuted targets survived. This will allow us to use the polarimeter if a vaccum access is not possible before pp run starts. The coupling chain has been removed in the rotary motion for both vertical and horizontal. The hope is to get rid of the backlash. Initial test shows that they are still about the same. The gear box in horizontal rotary has been replaced by APEX dynamics AE070, it is a single unit of 25 gear ratio instead of two 5 gear ratio box. The new one is the same as the vertical one and believed to be better. Mechanical stops have been added at positive and negative limits for both linear axes. The motion test shows that the stops did not change the moving ranges defined by limit switches.

  2. AGS Polarimeter (contin) The target holders have been shortened to allow the vertical one have full rotation without hitting the horizontal one. The effort is aimed to avoid the hitting accident last run. Due to the space constraint, the horizontal target holder can still hit the vertical if the direction bit problem show up again. Due to these changes, the moving range of the targets will increase. A extension shaft was inserted to maintain the straigtness of the target holder shaft for both axes. The ceramic plate has been replaced by aluminum one. The mounting method has also been changed to sleeves, which gives flexibility when set the target position. The bellow movement was confirmed OK with the added moving range. The linear limit switches have been rewired to move them on the top of the drive. The remaining work: 1. document the wiring change (power, limit switches). 2. document the drawings for all newly introduced parts.

  3. JET Polarimeter • New silicon detectors installed. • New quartz window installed. • Due to overheating concerns, preamp box will get added cooling fans. • Pumpdown is underway, waiting for power outage before final vacuum work.

  4. Carbon Polarimeter • New target drive mechanism installed in Blue • New detectors and targets installed. • Target replacement for Yellow scheduled for Thursday. • System test Friday.
